Following the successful gathering of young leaders and animators across the Caloocan District at the St. Agnes Parish Formation Center and Convent for Ka-Talk: Sulong-Padayon 2026 (Phase 4), we unpack the foundational leadership modules focused on Empowerment of the Laity.
Rather than treating leadership as an exclusive title or corporate hierarchy, the sessions offered a deeply grounded, synodal framework on what it truly means to lead and serve within the Church today.
1. The Core Definition: What a True Leader Does
The consultation broke down leadership into four active postures:
-
SEEs: Having the vision to look closely at community realities and the needs of others.
-
LIstens: Practicing intentional, synodal listening before offering quick answers.
-
SPEaks: Giving voice to truth, encouragement, and constructive dialogue.
-
SERves: Grounding every word and vision in humble, active service.
2. Overcoming the Three Internal Hurdles
Stepping into leadership often triggers quiet self-doubt:
-
Fear (“Baka mali ako”): The fear of making mistakes. True leadership embraces learning through experience and community guidance.
-
Doubt (“Hindi ako magaling”): The feeling of inadequacy. The Church does not call the equipped; God equips the willing.
-
Support (“May makikinig ba sa akin?”): The anxiety of being ignored. When intentions are rooted in service, community collaboration follows naturally.
3. The “Youth Leader Starter Pack” & Relatable Realities
One of the most engaging insights highlighted the practical toolkit of modern servant leaders:
-
Confidence: Kahit 3% lang, enough to take the first step.
-
Ideas: Even when creative inspiration strikes unexpectedly at 2:00 AM.
-
Malasakit & Time: Giving heart and prioritizing service even when schedules are packed.
-
Prayer: The spiritual anchor holding all plans together.
-
GC Skills & “Konting Kapal ng Mukha”: Mastering group chat coordination and having the healthy boldness to step up and invite others.
4. The Guiding Mantra: Imperfection Meets Mission
“The Church doesn’t need perfect youth.
The Church needs:
Youth who LISTEN.
Youth who CARE.
Youth who SPEAK.
Youth who ACT.”
This truth was solidified through the 4-Step Discernment Compass:
-
TINIG: Ano ang sinasabi ng kabataan? (Listening to the ground).
-
TAWAG: Saan tayo tinatawag? (Discerning God’s direction).
-
TINDIG: Ano ang paninindigan natin? (Standing firm on values).
-
TAPAK: Ano ang susunod nating hakbang? (Concrete action steps).
The module concluded with a shared personal declaration:
“May tinig ako. May kakayahan ako. May pananagutan ako. May magagawa ako.”
Part 2 will cover the concrete action plans and grassroots ministry implementations developed during the workshop.
